Ministry Update: New BBQ Pictures up!

We have new event pictures up on our picture page!
These are the photos from the BBQ we did at the Truman Days in Truman, MN, Remer Harvest Days and the BBQ Competition in Albert Lea this past weekend.

We also have a new event coming up in September in Alexandria, MN. You can see the info about that already up on the front page and we will e-mail a reminder, geared specially towards those of you in the twin cities area. I'm talking to all of you Pethead friends out there!!!! You know who you are :o-)

The competition in Albert Lea was fierce with 50 competitors with most of them doing this continually and travelling the circuit, being experienced in cooking for competitions. Warren didn't win and the highest place he got was number 13 in his sauce. (The sauce that won was actually an already commercially sold sauce which was strange that it was allowed to be entered.)

It was actually quite stressful for both of us, as Warren tried to keep up with food demand for our customers and the cooking for the competition. He decided it wasn't worth the money nor the stress to continue entering competitions and will more concentrate on cooking for our customers who, regardless of what the judges thought, always commented on that our food was the best and one young man said that our BBQ was better than Famous Daves! We had several repeat customers over the two days.

We met people from the Clovis, Portales, New Mexcio area, which was really cool, specially when one said that their favorite restaurant was Leal's Mexican Restaurant (which is also ours!)

What was really neat is that we met a lady from Germany who is living in the States, she just had her family come to visit and she came out for the event. We spoke German with each other and I gave her all our information and hope to hear from her again. It was really cool to connect with her which made my weekend.

Please pray that we did well financially with this event, as it was all done in tickets and we will receive a check from the event organization. We didn't have even time to count all the tickets, but we hope it was more than enough to cover the expenses! We did sell a lot of food as it was constantly busy to where neither one of us could even sit down to rest during all those hours the event was open!

Yet, meeting all those nice people was more than worth it to be there. That is the neat part about such events, you make great connections!

We also got to visit Grace Christian Church. This church has much significance to us, as Pastor George Marin had a special concert event in the middle of town in August of 2003.
John Schlitt of Petra was the main act and we were the opener band with Erik Olson before us.

After the concert Pastor George had invited Warren and I to spend the nite in the pastoral quarters at the church.
The next morning Warren had gotten up to pray for wisdom in how to tell me that he loved me more than just being a friend, but was afraid that I might reject his care for me. He asked God for direction and a sign........
....the sign came the next day in Hill City where we visited his dad and the rest is history. Since yesterday, August 25th, Warren and I have been happily married for 5 years.

It was very cool to be at THAT particular church the day before our anniversary! We even laughed as the sign above the door as you entered the church that read: "Welcome Home. I've been waiting for you!"

What a blessing to connect with Pastor George again, who very well remembered us! We even visited the concert site for some reminicing........
